Playlist of the Day: GRRRRL POWER

bearded women from hblaisauce on 8tracks Radio.

These past few days of rainy, cold weather have gotten me down in the dumps and led me to begin doubting and questioning myself. Who am I? What am I going to do? Why does my hair never do what I want it to do? I'm such a loser!!! But then I realized it was stupid and pointless to think these negative thoughts and I willed myself to get back on the confidence train!
Here's some of that womanly-independence channeled into a playlist featuring confident women with amazing talent that I just can't get enough of lately. Can you say inspiration??? Oh you can? Okay, just checking.

Playlist of the Day: Storm clouds are raging all around my door

spring time with friends from hblaisauce on 8tracks Radio.

I think this title ("The Man in Me" by Bob Dylan lyric) is quite suitable for these past few days. The weather here has been crazy! Throughout the course of one day it's like I'm watching an entire year pass by through my window; rain one minute, hail the next, then snow, and finally some sunshine to immediately melt the remains! Right now the sun is out and there are no signs of a thunder/hail/dog/yogurt/ storm in the near future, but the weather is as unpredictable as...whether or not I will think of something witty to end this with.
Enjoy some sunny tunes I've been listening to lately to put a little "spring" in your step! (haaahaaaaaaaaaa oh me...)

ice dance

*~Today was the first snowfall of the season so I'm writing in blue! Because snow is blue, right?!~*
And while I feel like I should be enjoying the day like this:
(...actually I kind of want to punch this person square in the jaw.)

I'm more like this:
"Ohhh it's so pretty out oooh look at that. That's nice. I'll just sit here though, yeah it's nicer from here."

It really is beautiful though, and I would totally go out and play in it if I didn't have to... sit here instead.  I'm the kind of person who loves snow and is all, "SNOW ANGELLSSSS!!! LET'S WATCH "HOW THE GRINCH STOLE CHRISTMAS"! WHAT HOW CAN YOU THINK THE JIM CARREY VERSION IS BETTER? YOU JUST CAN'T BEAT ORIGINALS!!! SWEATERS AND MITTENS!!" until it's here the next day and then I'm all, "Hasn't this gone on long enough... :|" It's kind of like my mindset when was in school (suuuuuuuch a long time ago) and Paranormal Activity movies (mostly just the last part, though).
ANYWHO FROM WHOVILLE, here's my first snowfall playlist and my first snowfall outfit (where I actually did step outside into the falling snow because it looked nicer and maybe some of you thought I was lying)

Poncho over thrifted navy dress and cardigan, wool socks and lil red boots! My favourite mittens and another francais beret (that rhymes)! I was going to wear my silvery blue lipstick but I thought that might make me look like I have a case of ye ol' hypothermia! A ho ho hooooo....enjoy the snow before you get sick of it... or die...from hypothermia...!!

la vie en rose

The sun actually woke me up today (well, that and my dog punching me in the face in his sleep), and amidst the the miles of clean white linen and a plethora of plush white pillows, I felt like I was waking up in a prestigious hotel in ol' Paris (pair-ee). I recently transformed my brother's old room (which was serving as an exercise/watch tv/sit on the ground/stare-out-the-window-and-contemplate-your-existence  room) into the location for my next fun photoshoot with Kiki, and decided I loved it so much that I would spend the rest of the day and night laying in the covers watching Netflix and flipping through my new Rookie: Yearbook One!! The whole *~ambience~* gave me a new perspective of November, and in this epiphany came one word: "fudge". So I went and got some fudge and continued my November-spiration which is all about...try and guess...because I already told you...it's not fudge...even though it should be...it's ol' Pair-ee! 1950's/60's Paris, specifically. 1950's/60's Paris fashion/music/atmosphere, if we're being extra specific. Fur coats, pea coats, trench coats, coat ensembles, gloves, fancy hats, An Education, cat eyes, little purses, dainty shoes, Edith Piaf, Edie Sedgwick's glamour, champagne, I could go on.... The whole era is so romantic and fun and glamorous and exciting and I figured November needed a little bit of an ego boost. You're welcome, November.

Little Edie, Rosamund Pike and Carey Mulligan in "An Education", Sienna Miller as Edie Sedgwick in "Factory Girl", Sam and Suzy in "Moonrise Kingdom", Edith Piaf, still from "Amelie", Carey Mulligan in "An Education", the women of Mad Men, vintage photograph, girls in fur coats, girls in pea coats.

Here is a little bit on musical inspiration. Au revoir! (<--- so clever and cute)

dead man's bones

I don't know about you guys, but there are questions that I ask myself everyday, such as: "What is the meaning of life?", "Is someone reading my mind right now?", "What is the appropriate amount of days to go without showering (a friend was wondering)", "Why am I so good looking?" and, "Can Ryan Gosling get any COOLER???". The answer to all of these questions is, yes. That doesn't make sense. Only the last one. Okay, let me clarify. The answer to only one of these questions, this being the last question, is yes. **The answers to the rest of the questions are most-likely: pizza, probably Ryan Gosling, sorry, and what**. Contrary to popular belief, it IS humanly possible for someone that life threateningly amazing to be even MORE amazing. But, HOW you ask?? Well, by teaming up with band member (who is equally as cool) Zach Shields and creepy choir children dressed as ghosts, ghouls and skeletons, to create a spectacularly eerie and catchy Halloween musical experience called "Dead Man's Bones", of course!
Man, the things I'd do to be that toilet paper-fied mummy standing in such close vicinity to greatness
For the past couple years since I stumbled upon this magical potion of musical Halloween themed proportions, the album has been my October theme. Children singing, echoing and reverb x3098634, creepy lyrics about zombies and bones I could only dream up, Ryan Gosling's "Blue Valentine"-ukulele-singing-voice... it doesn't get much more fantastic than that.
Here is a video of them playing live in a graveyard OH MY GOD.

So if you're looking for some Halloween tunes to get you into the spirit, here's a playlist of my favorite tunes by them! Jump in the car with a friend (or two if you have more than that!!) and drive down a deserted road blasting "Pa-Pa-Power", or go for a crisp October walk through the forest listening to "Werewolf Heart".

we are doomed to play

As I sit here in my new cat sweater although I am more of a dog person, I am feeling very spooky, serene and cold. Here is my cover of Cat Power's "Werewolf", featuring my photography from a European tour this past spring.

literally killing me softly with his song and every other way possible

A friend of mine once told me the Vogue Theater in Vancouver is haunted. Well, I'm not too sure about ghosts but the other night, (as I eagerly awaited the arrival of my future husband, pondering thoughts to myself such as: will he love me as much as I love him? Will he do that annoying thing and be creeped out when he wakes up to me watching him sleep? Will I have to give into my heritage and learn Swedish?  Because I'm totally not good at that whole bilingual thing) I was definitely in the presence of an angel. If you have not heard of The Tallest Man on Earth (shown above; it's not just a random picture of a shirtless man I have limits ok) you should revoke your title as an inhabitant of society, because you clearly are a hermit. For those of you who are fellow fans, you can just skip down to the part where you get extremely jealous of me for once in my life, and for those who have had musically deprived lives up until this point let me EDUCATE YOU. Kristian Matsson, said Tallest Man, is in my opinion, this generation's Bob Dylan. Born and raised in Sweden, Kristian is alone with his multiple guitars and heavenly voice to write songs of interacting and being with nature, the occasional sweet (amazing) love song, and others that make you feel like you are on a grand adventure in an enchanted forest or meadow or something to find the meaning of life with the Tallest Man on Earth. And since my words are not nearly as powerful as his, you will just have to listen for yourself.
NOW
HERE
IS
THE
BEST
PART
Let me pick up from where I started before I gave the hermits the greatest gift of music they will ever recieve, and continue. So yes, my friend Maria and I woke up in the wee hours o' da mornin' on September 10th, and drove down to see The Tallest Man on Earth live in the Vogue Theater in Vancouver.
Proof: me casually looking at the tickets
We grabbed a healthy breakfast:
Were mature and did not laugh/take a picture of this:
Or this:
Saw this awesome lady playing the tambourine along to music only she could hear and wearing a crown:
Counted down the hours until: (BIG SEAN!!!!!!!!!! Not really)
Found this adorable and delicious Greek restaurant which was suuuuper busy...:
At the concert we met up with a plethora of pals and I took an awesome quality photo:
Me and Maria looking like supermodels or something:
And then Strands of Oaks came on and played "Two Kids" and I cried
 And were AWESOME
And then (sorry for the horrible quality, iPhones make it easy to crack your screen but not have nice photos when you zoom in the slightest bit)...
I SEE YOU LOOKING AT ME I LOVE YOU TOO
He opened the show with "To Just Grow Away" from his new album There's No Leaving Now, followed by one of my favorites, "Love is All". He played both his old and new stuff and I didn't think it was possible for someone to actually be even better live, and that's saying a lot about TMOE. My friends and I stood at the base of the stage and swayed and sang along and my friend, Jocelyn, even brought him flowers she stole from a homeless person and threw them at his face and he said thank you and stuff! After the crowd gave a standing ovation and screamed for a good five minutes, he came back onstage for three encores (basically) of "The Wild Hunt" (my absolute favorite of his) a cover of Paul Simon's "Graceland" and finally leaving us with a piano version of "The Dreamer" and a humble bow. It was an amazing experience with amazing friends and music and $1 pizza. I could do it everyday.

I kind of ruin this whole video because I get reaaaaally into it and sing so loud and horribly you can barely even hear him. I mean.... it was this random girl beside me she was so loud and like moaning and stuff so weird what a psycho freak!! Some people are trying to LISTEN here right?!?!? Ha....sjfg;arigawgh!!!!!!
